I Saw the Light: A Word or Two

Melody was an extremely gifted poet whose newly discovered, poetic genius was quickly becoming apparent to the faculty in the university English department.

"Your recent poetry literally astounds us," her professor told her, after reading through one of her projects.

"Thank you," she responded, being uncertain as to what he was going to say next. "I saw the light," she said cautiously, concerned that he might not understand what she meant.

"Super! Explain that to me!" he insisted. He suspected that she had experienced something that was transforming her writing in an amazing way. "You never know, I just might understand."

"You know that I have always loved prose, but now, with my heavy course load, I realize that the sheer volume of words frustrates me something fierce," Melody explained.

"Many students who become successful poets have felt the same way and gone beyond prose into writing poetry, for that very reason."

"Why write volumes, when several words can make a powerful statement that says the same thing?"

"So how did this change come about for you?" asked her professor. He was still curious as to how she 'saw the light', so to speak.

"You know that our modern day electronic communication far surpasses that of yesteryear, right?

"I would have to agree, at least in some respects," her professor replied.

"I saw the light when I was on Twitter," she went on to explain further. "What you say if I told you I posted my last ninette on Twitter?"

"That is amazing!"

"You do understand."

"Just keep up the good work, Melody."
