"That was not smart, at
all. Here I am president of our sorority and I was in charge of this sorority
dance. How could I do something so dumb, afterwards?" seventeen year old
Shirley asked herself, the next morning. "I can only blame myself. The
evening was so perfect otherwise."
Several days later, she started
having bouts of nausea and took a home pregnancy test.
"It's your fault!"
Shirley screamed at her eighteen year old boyfriend, Theodore, later that day.
"You are the one who is to blame for this pregnancy. I never should have
invited you to our sorority dance. If you had not been so drunk and gotten me
drunk too, this would never have happened."
"You are right on every
account, except one. I am really happy you invited me to your sorority dance.
It was so much fun, wasn't it?" replied Theodore. "By the way, I am
going to assume full responsibility for this pregnancy. We will get married
immediately, that is if you will marry me."
"I really had no intention
of getting married yet," replied Shirley. "I am so young and have
many hopes and dreams. A baby was not supposed to be part of them, at least not
yet."
"But, now it is and we
will deal with all of this together," said Theodore, with a sincere,
romantic smile on his face. "I just could not resist you. You looked was
so beautiful! Your dress was perfect. That rock band you hired got everyone
dancing. It is no wonder we were all excited. Everyone in the place was
rocking!"
"We cannot blame the dance
for what we did afterwards. There is just no excuse for that."
"I know, but I do love you
and we are responsible adults."
"I am so embarrassed! How
will I ever explain this to my sorority?"
"They are your sorority sisters who
love you, and they will understand."
