The Waitress: Customer Confidentiality

The Blue Tiger Cafe was not a large restaurant, but they always served good food and were famous for their excellent service. Sixteen year old Nadia was one of the group of teenagers who worked there part time, while attending high school.

"That young woman is the best waitress in town!" said seventeen year old Trevor, to his best friend, Ned. Nadia was his new girlfriend. He had taken an instant liking to her, simply because of the quiet, gentle way she took care of people in the restaurant.

"Let's celebrate at the Blue Tiger after the football game, on Friday," suggested Ned. "I will bring my girlfriend along."

"My Nadia will be working," boasted Trevor.

"Great, then the girls can finally get to meet each other."

The evening started out well for Trevor and Nadia, because their high school football team had won the game that evening. Ned and his girlfriend showed up at the Blue Tiger late. Trevor immediately introduced Nadia to Ned's girl friend.

What happened next shocked the young men and Nadia. Patsy, Ned's girlfriend, was anything but friendly when they were being introduced. In fact, she was openly rude, extremely argumentative and very abusive towards Nadia.

"You are a nobody, just the waitress!" said Patsy, to Nadia, as she served their drinks.

Trevor intervened on her behalf, immediately.

"She's my girlfriend!"

Nadia, being in a difficult position as the waitress, decided not to dispute anything Patsy said, or make any comments. She just did her job. Trevor admired Nadia's composure, but was glad to see Ned and Patsy leave shortly thereafter.

"What is going on here?" Trevor asked Nadia, quietly. "You can tell me now."

"I cannot discuss customers, or their problems with you," replied Nadia, who was shaken up by what had just happened with Patsy. "I'm sorry."

"Ned and Patsy were suspended from high school for the rest of the semester, this morning," Trevor told Nadia on the phone, the following day. "I thought I should let you know that they were caught trafficking, after they left the restaurant last night."

"They are our customers," replied Nadia, quietly. "I cannot talk about them."

"I understand," responded Trevor, aware that Nadia was probably aware of their drug trafficking problem before he was. Obviously, customer confidentiality was something Nadia took seriously and he could only respect her for it.
